SEAN HAGEHead Coach
Coach Hage brings an extraordinary wealth of experience and success to our program, establishing himself as a legendary figure in the sport.
In high school, Sean Hage secured four State Champion titles and an impressive six Fargo National Champion titles, solidifying his status as one of the nation's top wrestlers. His dominance extended to the Cadet level, where he earned the title of Cadet National Champion twice. On the national stage, Hage boasts an astonishing 11 national champion titles, a testament to his consistent excellence. Internationally, he earned silver and bronze world medals in 1990 and 1993 and reached the pinnacle in 1994 as the Freestyle World Champion. In college, Hage qualified for the NCAA Championships twice and achieved Senior National All-American status in Greco-Roman wrestling in 2001. He wrestled at West Virginia University from 1995 to 2000, leaving an enduring impact on the program, and also attended Northwestern State University. Coach Hage's dedication and achievements make him an invaluable asset to our wrestling program. Under his guidance, our athletes will not only enhance their wrestling skills but also cultivate the values of hard work, discipline, and perseverance that have defined his illustrious career. Theresa Roy is a multi-talented educator and coach, making a significant impact in various facets of our school community. Currently serving as the Middle School Head Wrestling Coach, she has brought her expertise and enthusiasm to the mat since taking on the role.
Theresa's coaching journey extends beyond wrestling, as she also leads our High School Color Guard team with dedication and passion since 2017. Her commitment to nurturing talent and fostering a sense of camaraderie is evident in both her wrestling and color guard coaching roles. As a devoted parent and supporter of our wrestling program since 2020, Theresa understands the importance of a strong athletic foundation for our students. Her active involvement reflects her deep investment in the success and development of our young athletes. In addition to her coaching responsibilities, Theresa has been a valued member of our teaching staff since 2015, where she continues to make a positive impact on our students' education. Her academic journey includes an Ed.S. in Curriculum and Instruction from Piedmont University and an M.Ed. in Health & Physical Education from the University of North Georgia. Theresa Roy's dedication, knowledge, and unwavering support make her an invaluable asset to our school community. DAVID MATTHEWSAssistant Varsity Coach
Coach Matthew's journey is marked by a diverse tapestry of experiences, making him an exceptional individual.
Beginning as a high school wrestler at Dawson County High School for two years, he later transitioned to a coaching role at the same school for one year. His passion for nurturing talent led him to South Forsyth High School, where he dedicated three years as the JV Head Coach before making the move to Lumpkin County High School where he has made a significant impact over the past four years. In his pursuit of knowledge and personal growth, Dave attended the University of South Carolina-Beaufort, Georgia State University, and Columbus State University. His educational background reflects his commitment to self-improvement. Notably, Matthew's remarkable military career spans 15 and a half years on active duty, complemented by an additional six years in reserves, amounting to an impressive 21 and a half years of service. A poignant fun fact highlights his unit's pivotal role as the first unit deployed to Afghanistan immediately following the events of September 11th, arriving in Kandahar on September 18th. Ed Wright's life is a testament to unwavering dedication and a love for wrestling that has left an indelible mark on the sport and countless lives. Raised in California, Ed's journey began with an AA Degree from Riverside Junior College, where he majored in Chemistry and minored in Physical Education. His academic path continued at San Diego State College, where he earned a BA Degree in Physical Education with a minor in Chemistry, accompanied by a Lifetime Secondary Teaching Credential in California.
Ed's commitment to service led him to the United States Army Corps Of Engineer Officer Candidate School, where he graduated as a 2nd Lieutenant and served with honor in Vietnam, showcasing the same resilience and leadership that later defined his coaching career. As the Head Wrestling Coach at Riverside Poly High School in 1965 and later as an Assistant Coach at El Cajon Valley High School, Ed's influence reached far beyond California. From 1971 to 1977, he helmed the wrestling program at San Ramon Valley High School. In 1977, Ed took his coaching prowess to Georgia, leaving a lasting legacy at institutions like Milton, St. Pious, South Forsyth, Norcross, Forsyth Central, and Lumpkin County High School. His dedication extended to sharing his knowledge through wrestling clinics, notably at North Forsyth and West Hall. Ed Wright's contributions weren't limited to coaching; he officiated alongside Dr. John and the Atlanta Association for a total of five years. Ed Wright's story epitomizes a blend of military discipline, educational excellence, and an enduring passion for wrestling that continues to inspire and shape the sport and the lives he touched. A Vietnam War veteran, esteemed coach, and dedicated educator, Ed Wright's legacy remains an inspiration in the world of wrestling. |
